The Dream Thieves by Maggie Stiefvater

Goodreads

From page 364:

It was a sort of ferocious, quiet beauty, the sort that wouldn’t let you admire it. The sort of beauty that just always hurt.

Although overall I have a complicated relationship with this series, I adore Stiefvater’s wording. There are many lovely little passages like this, and all the nuances, the ebb and flow of her phrases-they’re gorgeous. Somehow, it feels like reading music; something that drops and rises and echoes and bangs. As if the entire book, the entire series, were just movements of a sonata being performed by a wonderful orchestra.

  1. I’m right there with you on the TBR list. At this point, I’ve just resigned myself to the knowledge that I will probably never read all of it. Ah well.
I have several ethical problems with this series, but I also have several things I L-O-V-E about it. I think I am going to finish it though, especially since the final installment comes out this year!

  3. Oh, this is such a beautiful passage. ❤ I believe I've only read the first two Raven Boys books, but I've heard wonderful things about the series, and so I think I must pick it up ASAP. Especially when there are gorgeous passages like this to savour.

    1. Thanks! As I alluded to in the post, I have a love/hate relationship with this series. The writing style and characters are some of my favorite elements in these books though. If those are important to you I’d definitely go ahead and read The Raven Cycle.
